SCPA Status
as of 11/2011
As of the end of 2011, the SCPA (South Coast Paragliding Association) has not been active as a club for several years. The last formal meeting where minutes were recorded was in August 2008. There is still money in the bank account, but there have not been any pressing issues that require an active organization dedicated to paragliding. The SBSA (Santa Barbara Soaring Association) has evolved over the years to include more PG pilots than HG pilots, so the paraglider pilots are currently well represented by the SBSA. The SCPA does continue to maintain the Discussion Board for both organizations, and will offer support to occasional projects as they arise.
There has been some informal discussion about merging the SCPA and the SBSA, but it was decided that it is simpler to keep the SCPA organizational structure for now. There is the possibility of activating the association if necessary, but currently, no one has the intention to do so, nor has anyone described a scenario where re-activation might be proposed. The decision to keep the SCPA structure is based on the fact that the SCPA does offer some services and the carrying cost is likely less than the cost of a merger in the short term.
