Had John's Suburban packed full of 12 pilots and Broken Mike to drive. Len Szfaryn and Gary Brock came up from LA to test the notorious Topa air.

I got to about 8K over launch, went to Nordhoff Peak, got up to 7500, then over to White Ledge where I hit a wall of west wind. Climbed up to 7200 but turned back due to the west wind. Landed at the high school.

Below is Len's email to me after the flight:

Interesting air today, is it usually that strong there? The air wasn't rowdy and the thermal edges weren't that sharp, but there were 5-10 seconds of some big air, that's for sure.

There seemed to be a lot of converging air everywhere, no real shear lines (which is good), just a bunch of air masses careening off one another. For the most part it was hard for me to tell if the rising air was thermic or just convergence.

In any case, it was great fun. Always enjoy flying new sites. You have a great crew of pilots up there, tell them we enjoyed sharing the air with you all.
