My site briefing included going to the spine to the east and climbing up and goint OTB.

My actual flight consisted of: Launch Fly east to the spine halfway there find some small thermals drifting very fast up the slope Stayed in thermal until over the ridge the road is on, but I was only about 150' or so above the trees. Didn't feel comfortable going over the back with that clearance, and one more turn would put me OTB. Left thernal, found nothing but sink. Tried the spine to the east but found nothing. flew west to the area where I picked up the first good thermal, was greeted with even more sink. Aimed for launch (was still above launch at this point) to try a top landing. Sank out before getting there. Flew down the spine to the W of launch looking for the perfect combination of flatness, smallish bushes, nearness to launch, and most importantly no wing-collapsing rotor. Had to fly down quite a ways before I could ride a lee-side thermal to my landing spot.

Live and learn, I guess!
