Well, I’m sorry to have missed the opening days at Pine, and thanks to those that called (both before and after), but I was in Sun Valley, Idaho for their annual Fly In and Dave Bridges Mountain Race.
The Fly In was pretty fun although we did far more partying than flying. It was still pretty cool to ride the chair lift up and then “sled” down the ski runs, watching the skiers as they watched us. The best lift seemed to be closest to the lodges and it was really cool to soar close to all the spectators. After a lifetime of skiing and snowboarding it was fun for me to “hang out” at the lodges from such a different perspective.
The race was lots of fun too. We started at 5700 MSL and then hiked our gear up the ski runs to the summit at 9000 MSL where we launched and flew back down to the parking lot at the bottom. A bunch of the guys racing were comp pilots in amazing shape. The theme for the weekend (and probably their lives) was climb hard, fly hard, and party hard.
No more trips for a while though, so next time somebody is heading to Pine please give me a call.
