Saturday Morning, 10:15 AM

The day is unfolding as forecast. With building north wind, the mountains may cycle several times. Because the lapse rate is strong, and the humidity high, any sun will generate lift which will lead to overdevelopment and low cloudbase.

Cloudbase is currently down at The Rock. Debbie is currently reporting wind from the SW. The south wind is a draw. If the OD is strong enough to shut down the draw, then the NW wind will break up the development and the cycle will repeat.

To fly the mountains today, you need to head uphill around midday when the conditions are dark. If you wait till the sun is out, it will be too late by the time you get to The Bypass. The Round House needs to be clear of clouds to launch up at The Bypass, so you may want a spotter. With the lapse rate so good, the lift should be smooth, weak and fat.

Bates, Wilcox, and More Mesa are all possibilities. With the wind coming in from the west, there will probably be more wind up the coast. If it’s getting strong at More Mesa, it may be time to move to Bates. The buoys are currently showing a good direction, but not strong enough. The forecast is for wind in the afternoon, so Bates to Ventura probably offers the best distance potential for the day.

The SB Training Hill also offers potential to get up and on course.

I’ve only got one day this weekend, so I’ll wait for tomorrow, but would be chasing it if I could.
