Launched from Kagel at 11:45 with three other PGs just as a somewhat ominous-looking front was approaching from the West. We all launched easily and climbed out immediately. Lift was everywhere, and nasty turbulence, and gusty winds. The clouds were soon upon us, boiling overhead, and with them a building south wind and increasing cloud suck (between 400 and 1000 fpm up).
I decided it might be a good idea to get down before things got out of hand -- but the clouds had other ideas. I pulled big ears and held them in for a full ten minutes till my arms were sore, all the while steadily going up up up. Full speed bar towards the LZ and barely penetrating.
I finally stumbled into some light sink and landed uneventfully. Reports from the top of the mountain were now of winds at 20-22 mph.
Not a fun day, not a super scary day -- but an "interesting" day.
