Consider these warning signs...

Elings around 1145ish. It wasn't strong enough to kite people up the hill well. Ocean looked like sub 8kts. I hiked up(my new routine anyway), took in some sun then set up and took a flight. On my way to the point next to Las Positas I noticed med. strong variable/unstable lift(SW).. I went anyway. Latched to the itty bitty therm, fell out, then headed to LZ and got dropped into a little bush on the edge. =\

Kiting up was *weird*. There seemed to be wind, more than enough to kite with, but bringing up my wing it was very weak. By the time I got to 1/3 below the top the wind went *WICKED*. It had died down slighty for 2 minutes, then came from WNW!! It came strong. It was weird being on the trail, and I tried bringing my wing up... only to see it point -toward- the hill. WOW.

On top, standing with others we admired the flags pointing toward the ocean and west. =\ Within 10 minutes a gust front came. (I thought it was wicked before!) I dove to fall on my wing though it was gathered to prevent it from inflating. It seemed like a HUGE West wind. Glen Chantler was on the scene and stood at the edge of launch with a wind meter. He clocked 22.6!! Said he'd just come from More Mesa where he had first noticed it. We went to the backside and clocked a 28+ and not even at the "sweat spot".

Note: WNW or NW... no wind on water WHATSOEVER. No indicators locally.

We ALL wondered about the folks in the mountains. How did everyone fair out?
