Driving through the suburbs of Rancho Penasquitos, then a construction site I stopped by Black Mtn. and met Rod of "Eagle Hang Gliding" there. He gave me the heads-up on the site--no gentle training hill, and an easy vert. hike for both PG and HG. I was there mid-day and another PG pilot arrived and made the hike in 15-20 minutes. Off-road vehicles are prohibited up the hill as 4 deaths have been tallied. The area has been recently purchased by the water district and flying and usage of the surrounding area is very restricted. I opted not to fly as Rod informed me of the "not-so-obvious" extreme air the area provided. Most often the local PG pilots fly afternoon--not mid day. It being my first time there and having a desire to tread-lightly, the idea of returning with my friends who have flown there seemed more appealing.
