So we all checked the weather reports today, right? Didn't look so great. A quick look out the window revealed high clouds blocking a good portion of the sun. Bleah. It wasn't going to be a good day but we all wanted to fly and Dave (a visitor from Oregon) wanted to check out the site. Gathered at Nordhoff at 11 and after some confusion over drivers, vehicles, who was actually going, and permits we finally headed up. Arrived at launch around 12:40 and Bruce's kids were in the process of launching. The weather still didn't look promising but it was clear and we could see the islands. Good sign #1. Good sign #2 came when Bruce's kids went straight up to 6k or so. Hmmmm. Christian had decided to drive one of the pickup trucks down but had brought his wing anyway. We started bailing off the launch. Zvi was first off and joined Bruce's gaggle. The rest of us followed and joined in the gaggle except for Dave who headed down the spine. Christian needed little convincing that he could fly, topland, and drive the truck down. A little rowdy but good lift and good fun flying with Bruce's bunch. Christian pulled off a very nice spiral out in front of launch and then had a beautiful top landing. Zvi headed for Nordhoff where I lost track of him. We had a nice ring of pilots comprised of me, Bruce, and the kids. Everyone right behind the other, all at the same altitude. Great fun. After about 50 minutes in the air Bruce's bunch headed off like a flock of geese to land at home. A quick survey of the air left me up there alone. As Bruce's bunch hit twin peaks I got a boomer over launch and went up to 6600 before running away. As good a time to head for Nordhoff as any so off I went. A bit sinky but I made it and managed to milk it across to the green patch just before the jump to Pyramid. REALLY trashy air. Spent a good lot of the time either horizontal, trying to keep my boots attached to my legs, or counting bugs in the shrubs as I went by. With 4k I made the dash for Nordhoff and met up with Zvi on the football field. All in all it was an excellent day. So much for the weather reports ey? Who's up for tomorrow?
