First of all, not all post frontal days are created equal. Cold fronts coming in from the north pacific are much better for flying than the "Pineapple Express" fronts coming in from the SW. The unstable cold air from the north pacific storms keeps the inversion layer at bay because the surface air temps are close to or slightly below the ocean temps. And of course, because there is still some moisture in the air we get those nice cloud streets to mark the thermals.
