Chiefs, Fri Sat & Sun,

Several pilots were planning on a trip to the Owens, but we changed direction on Fri AM after weather reports.

Friday and Saturday I did nearly identical flights. Friday I left Chiefs in the mid 6s, while Saturday I headed w with 56. I came in low, 29 and 30, on the front (s) wall at Nordhoff Peak and transitioned up to the look-out tower. Friday was fun flying, but Saturday the air was punchy and unpredictable by Nordhoff. Tom P found convergence over the Ojai Valley on Friday and flew home to Oak View

Friday the highpoint of the day for me was a speed-bar race with Dan K. The Episalon E-3 is faster at trim, but the Matrix has the edge on top speed. I followed John C on past the HS to a field on Hgy 33. Saturday I landed at the HS.

Sunday seven pilots went to Pine but there was too much wind, so we went back to Chiefs. We were late on the day as it shut down about 20 minutes after Bob H and I launched.

BH was near 6, but I couldn't connect past 54. I wanted more alt to head w after my uphill battle Saturday so I took one more look down the spine. I saw Dan K below me on his launch run to the spine but he never got a blip. The usual chiefs air turned to glass as I came in over the Second knob with 52. It was buoyant glide to the LZ near Bocalies.
