What a great story! I hadn't laughed that hard all day. I always had three axioms that I follow in my flying career. They are the following:
1. Never leave lift 2. Never separate from your gear and 3. Try your best to keep your drive time to flying time ratio low, ie. drive for an hour, fly for an hour (or more)
These were good enough until now. Now I have a forth.
4. To the best of my ability, I will try to fly as far as my glider bag.
