Brendan and I stopped at Skyport on our way back from a weekend camping trip in Figueroa, which for me was a fairly benign flying site. Brendan, on the other hand, caught a 1000 fpm thermal straight up over launch.
As light as it seemed at Skyport around 3:00pm this Sunday afternoon, it was a fairly soarable. The house thermal was not working as much as I wanted it to, tenaciously making figure eights to the point of barely making it over the power lines. Fortunately there was a nice southwest thermal working out in front of the Round House. This allowed me to stay up while I watched a few other pilots launch.
Brendan launched about 20 minutes later and flew up over to the Rock. He seemed to be doing pretty well, so I went over to share a small southeast thermal with him. It was tight but we managed. After a few minutes of practicing sharing small thermals, I decided to head back to the Round House and finally over the Monastery. I came in with a few hundred feet over Parma and decided to practice spiral dives to lose some altitude. What fun!
This flight was a nice change from the really strong conditions at Chief's last Friday and too light of conditions at Figueroa on Saturday. [bb_archive/_borders/disc1_aftr.htm]
