Truly a most beautiful day! After weeks of marginal flying, it was fun just to be up at Skyport in the brilliant sunshine anticipating some decent mountain conditions. I was able to get in two good flights.

My first launch was at 10:30. I was headed toward the roundhouse spine when I hit a stupendous thermal halfway between launch and the power lines. I rode it up to 3800 and headed back to the thermal factory. As soon as I got above the Santa Ynez mountains the air got pretty rowdy. So I cruised to Westmont. My friends live right next door and were having a brunch! After some delicious french toast, Benson picked me up and we got back to Skyport at 12:30.

The second flight was entertaining and challenging. Conditions were even more bumpy, but the lift was fantastic and I transitioned east. I got to 5200 over Montecito Peak, hanging out for 20 minutes above my breakfast companions who were hiking Cold Spring trail. The lift was spotty at Romero, but I got a low save and boosted up to 4000 before heading to Castle Rock. There I decided to give up on Ojai and floated out to the polo fields, arriving with 1500 feet to spare. The authorities reprimanded me for landing there, but, after a superb day of flying, it didn't dampen the spirit.
