Skyport

Arriving at launch around 11:00 we witnessed Rob and Casey demonstrating how well the house thermal was working. Shortly after gearing up and lying out (Thank you Tom B and Alan K), I launched in a nice southwest cycle. I worked the house thermal long enough to head out to the East Ridge. However, I under estimated my altitude and came a little too close to the antennas. I managed to catch a good thermal, which elevated me over the antennas and up high enough to the antenna farm.

I worked the thermals and climbed out to nearly 4900 ft., sharing a fatty with Brendan. I experimented with the North/South convergence at the top of the ridge for a while then headed west over the holy hills for a few more 800 fpm thermals.

I heard Dan Keyser on the radio telling us he was at the beach. I was contemplating gliding out to the beach, hoping to catch a ride from him. But was unable to make the connection. So, I continued to soar around catching thermals here and there. I took a few tip folds and was gusted back a few more times before I decided to land. Even on the approach to Parma, I was getting lift and making several 360’s. In an effort to loose altitude, I made several turns in the smooth areas.

All in all, this afternoon’s flight was fun and exciting. After a few hours I was ready to be warm and sitting at my favorite relleno burrito shop in town.

It was great flying with everyone!
