My Fridays in Arroyo Grande are often uneventful although every once in awhile I get to slip out and fly at one of several ridge sites along the coast. San Luis Obispo's answer to Solimar is Cayucos, a high ridge above the city overlooking Hwy 1 and the ocean. I've flown there before but the winds have never been strong enough to allow more than a sled ride. Not today. At 3:30 it was blowing SW at 12 mph. I launched (first flight for my new Thinredline harness) and for the first 15 minutes, remained fairly well parked in front of the hill, almost no penetration with speed bar fully engaged. An hour later I was still 300+ over but cruising freely over the city taking pictures of Morro Rock and the coast line. Landing on the beach was the perfect end to a really fun afternoon. You can catch Cayucos on the way to Big Sur; its directly above the fire station on the mountain side as you enter town. See me for directions to launch.
