I launched in the sun at Skyport after SD and the Spin Doctor with a cloud street begining to form over the antennae farm. Up and down at launch trying to find lift with nothing working in front or either side of the ridge. Apparently, while watching Ron scratch, I lost track of the cycles and launched at the end instead of the beginning. I finally headed toward the thermal factory thinking the power lines and postage stamp looked too close for comfort. Over the by-pass and a gaggle of bicycle riders I picked up a strong thermal that took me to cloud base. From there to Montecito Peak was an easy flight but I ran out of the cloud street behind the polo fields. I should have reversed course and allowed things to develop but entered sink in the canyons. At 1700 feet I was anticipating a long walk out when suddenly I found a tight thermal and made it back to 3000. From there, the beach looked doable and, with another 500 or so from the west point of Ortega Ridge, I cruised out over the water midway down Padaro Lane and landed near the Grill on the roadway east of the Santa Claus exit. Definately one of my best flights. Thanks to Bill Bailey for the pickup.

By the way, I lost my favorite Birkenstocks (brown and aged) at Parma. If anyone saw them, please let me know.
