Sometimes, after flying alot in the mountains, its easy to forget what smooth air is like. Benson and I were reminded early this afternoon at Solamar.

We'd spent the morning at the training hill with southeast winds so cross and light as to be neither fun nor particularly instructional. Bates was silent as a tomb while Debbie reported gusts of 20+ knots.

Solamar was light at the top, also cross and, at times, almost over the back. We launched after a flock of sparrows announced rising air up the front and landed on the road next to the beach. Made several passes back and forth across the only southeast face (sort of), flirting with but not finding enough lift to soar. Buttery smooth and boyant--it wasn't on a par with Ron's epic flight of last weekend but it was, as they say, better than a sharp stick in the eye.

On the way back down the hill from launch, We narrowly missed what might have been an unpleasant confrontation with a drilling foremen. If confronted, we plannned to sudtedly imply a close friendship with Tom Truax. We figured that would make an impression. Since we didn't have an opportunity to try the Truax defense this trip, anyone of you is free to use it in the future. Be sure to let us know the result.
