nicknames

As much as nicknames can be funny, I wonder very often who is behind the signature. I feel stupid for not knowing these famous people, and I apologize in advance for my ignorance. But maybe if we could write our name (and not only sign with a nickname) that would be easier for ignorant people like me or new club members to identify the authors of the messages.

Irene,
I agree with you that many times I'll see a post with a nickname or even a name and I have no idea who is behind it. I am guilty of the same thing. I have been "Double D" for so long now that when I introduce myself to someone and I don't want them to know who I am I'll say "Hi, I'm David Haight." They have no idea who I am until they find out that I am aka "Double D" at which point they ivariably say "Ohhh yeaah, I've heard all about you!" Kind of disconcerting, but that's what I get for being me.

As far as some of the most recent monikers I've seen there's Wingnut. EJ (Steele) used to use that one so I know it's not him cuz he's....flying in a different dimension. I'm trying to figure out Nitrous. If he (or she) were a wrestler it would probably be NITRO. Then I thought, what is nitrous, but short for nitrous oxide, an anesthetic used primarily by dentists. It's also an injected power booster for internal combustion engines. The latter would suggest a hotrod drivin' gearhead and there aren't many pilots like that, so I'm going with a dentist. Mystery guest sign in please!? As for the anonymity thing I'm pretty ok with it 'cuz what's in a name? It's what you do that counts. Maybe that's why it's so troubling to me to hear someone say that they have heard ALLL about me.

In the meantime where are we gonna fly

Pick an adjective that starts with D Dave

DD -
How can a you be a pilot in this area for so long and not know your two questions have the same answer?

Irene and DBLD

I've always hoped that the nickname that was given to me was becouse I am a dentist, and not any resemblance I may have to a sumo wrestler or an erratic agressive pilot, but I can't be sure. I am impressed with DBLD detectives abilities. Irene's suggestions that I use my name in addition to any nicknames is a good one and I will use it.

There are pilots such as DD and Deano that need no introduction, and others that are just part of the gaggle. If you fly well and distinguish yourself people will figure out who you are. Me? I've been basking in anonymity for years.

The only two questions that I posed were what's in a name? and where do we fly now (that there is a TFR and closures that put virtually all of our launches off limits)? were rhetorical questions.

Did you mean who are the two nicknames I was figuring out? That's one of the problems with forum postings. The comments and replies can be ambiguous to the point that only the writer knows the intention. The one I'm really trying to decode is Dirtfoot. Does it imply that you go barefoot most of the time, hence, dirty feet? I only know of one person around here that fits that description. Do you wear shoes when you fly?

DD
aka David Haight (pronounced "hate" which is one reason I prefer dbld)

oj, you may have been "basking in anonymity for years" but now that you put a nice photo of yourself on your posts you will be recognized every time you fly.

John, I do NOT fit in with the lead pilots. As most of you that know me, know I am a pilot of convenience. Of course at the time I will claim I was just making it easy for my driver or so logistics would work out better. That's BS! More than likely I was tired, scared, or wanted to land and have a beer.

...don't talk a lot here ... and couldn't imagine anyone caring Irene, but thanks for asking. I've been hammered by spam bots for years and then a few months ago got blasted by the moron editor at the newspress, so a nickname on a public forum seemed prudent.
